Modern electronics continue to shrink in size, and with the shrinking physical size so to the fasteners get smaller. In the past, the jeweler screwdriver sets were sufficient to disassemble small gadgets, but no longer. There are all manner of fastener type: Philips, slotted, torx, square and hex drives (to name just a few). These types of screw drives are used on everything from mobile phones and laptops to remotes and video game controllers. A good screwdriver kit is a must for anyone that makes of fixes things.
In theory the Pittsburgh would be a good addition to the toolbox, as there are a good variety of but and accessories.
The kit includes a variety of bits:
Slotted: 1mm, 1.5mm, 2mm, 2.5mm, 3mm, 3.5mm, 4mm
Phillips: PH000, PH00, PH0, PH1
Pozi: PZ0, PZ1
Torx: T4, T5,T6,T7, T8, T9, T10, T15, T20
Hex: 0.7, 0.9, 1.3, 1.5, 2.0, 2.5, 3.0, 4.0
There is an solid extension and a flexible one as well (the case and small magnifier are almost worthless).
The Pittsburgh 33 Piece Precision Screwdriver Set is a compromise.. quality for price. The biggest issue with this set is the all plastic handle. The threads are plastic where the knurled knob is tightened, that would probably be the point at which this will fail.
This has been used for a few projects over the last year, and it has worked surprisingly well. The assumption was that the handle would fail, threads would strip, and so far that is not the case. Because the screws are so small, the amount of torque to tighten or loosen is small, therefore this driver works just fine.
Worth the money, especially when purchased on sale.
This was purchased on sale, using a coupon so it was quite inexpensive, but the handle is of pretty low quality and completely made of plastic.
