I finished the sanding on Saturday, the easy parts having been completed the previous weekend. The remaining sanding was all detail work, which took as long as the flat areas.
The stain is “American Red” from Minwax, it’s water based and mixed like paint at the counter in the paint department (at Menards in this case). Three coats of Minwax semi-gloss poly to seal it up (water-based as well).
My wife helped upholster the seat, it has 1/2″ foam, some batting and then the striped fabric. It turned out well, and keeps the piece in the family and on display.
