Audio Technology Model 510 Peak Responding LED Display

I’ve had this Audio Technology Model 510 LED VU meter since the 80’s.  Just recently rediscovered in a box, I thought I would do a little research on it.  There is nothing that I could find.  No specs, no company history (Audio Technology has not existed in quite some time).  There are a couple discussions on message boards about the device, but little in the way of historical info.  I will update this entry as I come across any additional information, but in the meantime here are a few pictures of my device and a scan of the original owner’s manual.

Here’s the link to the owner’s manual:

Thanks for the info, Dave. I’ve had one of these since about 1983. Apparently they were manufactured from 1979 to 1983 and had an MSRP of $185. I believe I picked mine up for $100 at a store in LA as a discontinued model. I also have the oak panels for the sides. These are rare, but still seem to be only worth about $15-20 on the used market – considered “pro” equipment.

Sad that there is not more a value placed on it…

How did/do you use yours? I never used it as a power meter, I used it with the tape deck for line recording, as it seemed more accurate that the built-in VUs.

I used mine primarily for cassette and reel-to-reel recording, though I did hook it up a few times as a power meter. Truly a fantastic recording meter.

I bought one of these new back in ’79. It was so cool back in the day. I’d completely forgotten about it until I was pouring through some old photos and led me on this internet journey.

Thanks for talking time to post. It was cool, especially next to the spectrum analyzer!
